A: As a part of Rarebreed Veterinary Partners’ ecosystem, PetMedic Urgent Care clinics manage after-hours, non-emergency cases, providing relief to general practices and emergency hospitals.

A: The locations will be as follows: PetMedic in Westborough, Massachusetts, and a local Rarebreed general practice, Apple Country Animal Hospital, in Stow, Massachusetts.

A: Two interns will be selected for the 2023-2024 internship class. The interns will spend the first 2 weeks participating in an in-depth orientation at both the PetMedic and the GP locations. From there, each intern will being a 1-month rotating block between the PetMedic and the GP locations. The interns will also have a month block to spend at the Maine Veterinary Medical Center (MVMC) in Scarborough, Maine, as well as time to spend on a specialty rotation of their choosing and time at a HVHQ spay/neuter facility. A full schedule will be provided prior to start date.

A: Each intern will have shoulder to shoulder mentorship at each location. The interns will have dedicated mentor veterinarians at each location to oversee and support them through cases and procedures. In addition, the entire team of DVMs and support staff will be present to help support the growth and development of each intern. This is a group effort!

A: Some examples include: Afast and Tfast ultrasound training; canine and feline spays and neuters; dentistry; management of chronic diseases; wellness; diagnostic imaging; dermatology cases; ophthalmology cases; endocrine cases; behavior; other surgical cases; working through difficult cases; and client communication (this is not an exhaustive list).

A: The interns will participate in journal rounds with the MVMC interns as well as morbidity and mortality (M&M) rounds to discuss cases of adverse events.

A: Yes, each intern will have their own medical and surgical caseload at the PetMedic and the general small-animal practice. The intern will work directly with their mentor veterinarian to discuss and assess specifics of their day-to-day caseload.

A: The caseload will be discussed between the intern and their mentor veterinarian. However, the intern will be allotted ample time for work-up, diagnostic, client communication, and documentation of their cases.

A: At this time, the internship will not fulfill the requirements for most traditional residency programs.

A: Each intern will be paid a salary of $70,000/year. In addition, each intern will have the opportunity to take part in all the full-time benefits offered to all our full-time veterinarians. This includes participation in our 401K plan, health benefits, EAP, accrual of vacation time, sick time, etc.

A: Yes, providing an offer for full time employment is mutually agreeable. However, we cannot guarantee a position at the locations that participated in the internship.

A: Our focus is offering a superb salary, benefits, vacation, sick time, and a healthy work/life balance. Therefore, a housing stipend is not available. However, we will cover the full cost of housing during the block at MVMC in Maine.
