Tips for Keeping Your Pets Hydrated

Keeping all pets hydrated is especially important during warmer weather. As the temperatures heat up this spring and summer, follow these quick and 

easy guidelines to make sure your pet is hydrated.

• Give them options – place a couple of water bowls throughout the house to make sure your pet always has access to fresh water.
• Refresh water frequently.
• Bring a portable water bowl on dog walks and car rides.
• Avoid the extreme temperatures of midday and save longer walks for the morning or evening hours.
• Add water to your pet’s food on hot days to increase their intake.
• Check your pets’ mouths, as dehydrated cats and dogs often exhibit dry, sticky gums.
• If exercising, make sure your pet gets a lot of breaks.
• Make sure your pet has access to shade.

Many symptoms of dehydration (appetite loss, lethargy, excessive panting, etc.) can be glossed over or passed off as something else, so it’s important to keep a close watch on your pet.
